Reducing hospital admissions through crisis diversions
At Young Crisis Hub, we offer effective hospital diversion services to support young people in distress and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions. Our tailored, community-based approach ensures young individuals receive timely, appropriate care in safe environments that promote stability, trust, and recovery.
Hospital diversion provides an alternative to A&E or inpatient psychiatric admissions for young people experiencing emotional or behavioural crises. Instead of being admitted to a hospital setting, they are supported in specialised crisis placements or home-based interventions designed to de-escalate, stabilise, and reframe the situation.
We understand that moments of crisis require immediate, compassionate intervention. Our team offers rapid-response placements or outreach care to provide short-term stabilisation while longer-term plans are developed with families and professionals. The goal: keep young people out of institutional settings and safely supported in their community.
Each hospital diversion is handled with a bespoke care plan, created in collaboration with Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards, families, and young people themselves. These plans may include therapeutic support, structured routines, and tailored interventions to address the underlying causes of distress.
Our crisis care teams are trained to support young people with mental health challenges, neurodivergence, emotional dysregulation, and other complex needs. They are equipped to manage risk, de-escalate behaviours, and provide compassionate, youth-appropriate support in both residential and community-based settings.
Whether delivered in one of our crisis placements or through in-home support, all hospital diversion care is rooted in safety, trust, and consistency. We aim to create calm, supportive environments that prevent the trauma of unnecessary hospitalisation and offer young people the space they need to recover.
By partnering with Young Crisis Hub, you’re ensuring young people receive the right support at the right time — without defaulting to hospital admission. We offer:
Rapid crisis response
Trauma-informed, youth-centred care
Reduced pressure on hospitals and A&E
Improved outcomes for young people
Strong collaboration with statutory services

Hospital diversion should be considered when a young person is in crisis and hospital admission is being contemplated, but a community-based or specialised crisis placement could provide more appropriate support. The goal is to avoid unnecessary hospitalisation while ensuring the young person receives timely, effective care.
While hospitals are essential for medical emergencies, psychiatric wards can sometimes be traumatic for young people, particularly those with neurodivergence or trauma histories. Hospital diversion provides therapeutic crisis support in environments specifically designed for young people, promoting recovery without the potential trauma of unnecessary hospitalisation.

Hospital diversion is designed for short-term stabilisation during acute crisis. The duration varies based on individual needs, but the focus is on rapid stabilisation and transition to appropriate longer-term support where needed.
While hospital diversion provides short-term stabilisation, longer-term plans are developed collaboratively with Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards, families, and young people themselves. This ensures continuity of care and appropriate ongoing support.
